500 jobs stay in Leicestershire as Babcock moves to new city location

Babcock International Group (Babcock), the UK’s leading engineering support services company employing 25,000 people around the globe, is relocating circa 500 staff from its regional office in Leicester to a new facility in Radar Road, Braunstone Frith, Leicester. The move, from Babcock’s existing Whetstone office, will provide modern facilities for employees drawn from a variety of operating divisions. The new location is owned by James Wilson, Managing Director of Davidsons Developments. Mr Wilson and Paul Bagshaw of Rotherhill Developments have worked closely with Babcock to facilitate the move and the project has been co-funded by Lloyds Bank Corporate. Babcock will lease the whole of the site and project manage the refurbishment work.

Rodney Ackland, Babcock’s Group Property Manager, said: “This is a good fit for the Babcock operating divisions involved. We needed a new location in Leicestershire and we approached James Wilson with this proposition, which he felt would work for both parties. The new office, which is only circa 5 miles away from our existing facility, will enable us to offer an improved working environment for the employees relocating. All members of staff are now aware of the proposal and we expect a smooth transition from the current location to Radar Road during summer 2013.”

James Wilson said: “When we were approached by Babcock looking for an alternative location we considered that the site at Radar Road would meet all their needs. There is 70,000 sq. ft of accommodation including 50,000 sq. ft of office space on 4 acres of land – with very good road connections. All in all a great spot for a modern regional office.”

Paul Bagshaw, who is managing the project for James Wilson, said: “We’re delighted that Babcock is staying in Leicestershire. The construction work on the site will begin this autumn and it’s expected that the move will take place next summer.”

Lambert Smith Hampton Director Geoff Gibson, who represented Babcock, said:“Radar Road is a near-perfect solution for Babcock and we are pleased to have been part of the project.”
